What is Psychometric Testing?


The word “Psychometric” consists of two words: psycho means mind and metric means measurement.  So, it literally means measurement of the mind.

A Psychometric test is a test that a psychologist designed to measure your natural talents and your performance. It is designed to show your type of personality and your potential. Psychometric tests are used by employers and recruitment consultants to measure your suitability for the position. It is also used by careers advisors and coaches to help you achieve your potential.
There are 3 main types of tests: ability, interest and personality.

Psychometric tests became known because employers started using them for employment placement tests. Big companies believe that psychometric tests help them recruit the right people with the personal qualities and abilities needed for the specific position.  They are useful for "sifting out" large number of applicants at an early stage and so saving the employers both time and money.

Personality questionnaires are designed to explore your preferred way of behaving; how you relate to other people and your ability to deal with your own and other people's emotions and the way you handle and solve problems.

You would use psychometric testing if you are a:

Business Owner:  As a business owner you would use psychometric testing to find the person who is the right fit for the job. It helps you minimise costly hiring mistakes and save you money.

Sales person: Sales people who build great relationships with their customers have the greatest rate of success. Sales people use psychometric testing to help them understand each customer’s buying style and change their selling style accordingly.

Careers Advisor: Psychometric testing helps match the student’s personal style and talents with suitable career choices. It takes a holistic view of career management and helps the student find their natural talents.
